I started studying music at the age of 9 in the Music Conservatory of Valladolid, Spain.
I grew up listening classical, jazz and rock music, influenced by my older brothers and sisters, and since then I nurtured the seeds of this dream. In 1992 I moved to London, where I kept studying music and discovering life in the big metropolis. My next move was in 1995 to Berlin, where I started my studies as a sound engineer at the SAE school, time in which I took the first steps in boom operating, dialogue and music editing in the film and music industries. Since then I have immersed myself in all fields of sound recording and mixing: production recording, editing and mastering. Currently I live in Munich, Germany and work for German and international productions as a production sound mixer and sound recordist.
My principles:
Sound recording and mixing in film is a technical art which assembles quite a few factors together: fast decisions, improvisation's ability, complex technical know-how, high profile human behavior and strong communication skills. Whether it is a documentary film, a corporate video, a commercial or a long feature film your tasks are essentially the same: to deliver the best quality audio you can achieve under conditions which are not always optimal. The team structure, preparation and workflow are obviously different from genre to genre but the principles are pretty similar. Listening carefully to directors and DOPs always gives you the answers needed for your work. A thorough preparation is essential in feature films, while fast reaction's capacity is more decisive for documentaries, where the schedule is just a guide but never actually works as planned. Professionality basically means to me a cocktail of knowledge, attitude and readiness mixed up in an elegant glass that expresses your good purpose at all times, no matter how hard the situation or the hazards to overcome are. Good humor is a must, but discretion is even more important in most cases, since pictures have always priority. The best teachers along your path are your own mistakes, so that keeping these and your commitment in mind you have two powerful tools to do a better job every day. I consider myself an artist, a modest one, with capabilities of always finding creative solutions on a movie set, no matter how complex this task might be, with integrity, humor and solemnity, being these the DNA of my deep conviction of being a filmmaker.
